Frequently Asked Questions

1. Could this unit be placed on carpet? Is there much heat coming from this unit?

It should be installed on a hard, level surface to ensure stable positioning and proper operation. We do not recommend placing it directly on carpet.

2. What is the maximum bottle diameter that fits on the shelves of the BWR-1002SD or BWR-1002SDa? What is the difference between the SD and SDa models?

Both models are designed to accommodate up to 100 standard 750ml wine bottles. Larger Burgundy-style bottles and other oversized bottles may fit, but some shelves may need to be removed to provide additional clearance. The BWR-1002SDa is an Amazon-exclusive model with the same listed dimensions as the BWR-1002SD.

3. Can this wine refrigerator be installed under a kitchen counter?

Yes. The BWR-1002SD is designed for both built-in and freestanding installation. Its front-venting design allows it to fit into a suitable cabinetry when installed according to the manufacturer's requirements. For built-in installation, allow at least ¼ inch (6.35mm) of clearance on each side and at the top, and keep the front ventilation grille unobstructed. The minimum cabinet opening is 24 inches wide, 55 inches high, and 25 inches deep to accommodate the unit and handle.

4. What is the temperature range?

It offers an adjustable single zone temperature range of 40°F to 65°F (5°C to 18°C). This range allows you to select a suitable temperature for storing a variety of wines.

5. Can I store red and white wines together in this wine cooler?

Yes. You can store both red and white wines by selecting a temperature suitable for your collection. However, because this is a single-zone wine refrigerator, both types of wine share the same temperature setting.

6. Can the temperature display be switched between Fahrenheit and Celsius?

Yes, it allows you to display temperatures in either Fahrenheit or Celsius. Its electronic temperature controls make it easy to adjust the cabinet temperature and monitor your wine storage conditions.

7. How many bottles can the wine cooler hold when using the display rack?

It can accommodate up to 100 standard 750ml wine bottles in its standard storage configuration. When the display rack is installed, the listed capacity is approximately 90 bottles. Actual capacity may vary depending on bottle size, shape, and shelf arrangement.

8. Can the wooden shelves be removed to accommodate larger bottles?

Yes, it includes 12 removable wooden flat slide-out shelves, allowing you to adjust the interior layout for different bottle sizes. Larger bottles may require removing one or more shelves, which can reduce the total storage capacity.

9. Does this wine refrigerator have a display rack for showcasing wine bottles?

Yes, it includes a display rack that allows selected bottles to be presented at an incline. It can also be used to hold opened bottles. Keep in mind that using the display rack changes the storage arrangement and reduces the maximum capacity from approximately 100 to 90 standard bottles.

10. Does the wine cooler have interior lighting?

Yes, it features an interior lighting strip with nine soft white LED bulbs, helping illuminate your collection through the glass door. The lighting makes it easier to view and select bottles while giving the cabinet an attractive presentation.

11. Does it have a lock?

Yes. The wine refrigerator includes a cylinder lock and two keys to help restrict access to your collection. This feature is particularly useful when storing valuable bottles or installing the unit in a shared space.

12. Is it noisy during operation?

The manufacturer lists a noise level below 39 dB. As a compressor-based wine refrigerator with internal fan circulation, it may produce normal operating sounds such as compressor humming. Proper leveling and adequate ventilation can help minimize unnecessary vibration and noise.

13. Can I reverse the door opening direction?

Yes. The BWR-1002SD features a reversible door, allowing you to change the opening direction to suit your kitchen layout or installation space. Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully when reversing the door, and seek professional assistance if needed.

14. How long should I wait before plugging in the wine cooler after delivery?

Allow the wine refrigerator to stand upright for approximately four hours before connecting it to a power source after delivery. This helps reduce the risk of cooling-system problems caused by handling during transportation. Make sure the unit is properly positioned and leveled before operating it.

15. How should I clean and maintain the wine refrigerator?

Before cleaning, disconnect the appliance from the power supply. Clean the interior and removable shelves using a soft cloth and a mild cleaning solution suitable for the materials. Avoid abrasive cleaners and excessive water. Keep the front ventilation grille clear of dust and debris, and follow the manufacturer's instructions for routine maintenance.

16. What should I do if the wine cooler does not restart immediately after being unplugged?

If the appliance has been unplugged or experienced a power interruption, wait approximately 3-5 minutes before attempting to restart it. This allows the compressor system time to settle. If the wine cooler still does not operate, check the power supply and consult the user manual or Whynter customer support for troubleshooting assistance.

Factors to Consider a Wine Cooler

A wine cooler fridge is essential for keeping your favorite bottles at the perfect temperature for both serving and long-term storage. A built-in wine refrigerator will seamlessly complement your other home appliances while expanding your storage capacity. Whether you need a small wine fridge to fit in your kitchen island or a larger design for your bar nook, consider a dual-zone cooling system that can store both red and white wines at their ideal temperatures.

Storage Capacity

Start by thinking about how many bottles you plan to store. Our selection includes compact models for a few cherished bottles and large-capacity units that hold up to 160 bottles—ideal for serious collectors or casual enthusiasts.

Bottle Size and Shape

When we refer to bottle capacity for our wine and beverage coolers, we mean the maximum number of standard 750ml Bordeaux-style bottles that can fit inside the unit. If your collection includes bottles that differ from the traditional Bordeaux-style shape or size, the actual capacity may be lower than the advertised capacity.

Freestanding vs. Built-In

Freestanding fridges offer flexibility in placement—from your kitchen to a home bar, wine cellar, or even in a closet and they usually require side clearance. Built-in models are designed to fit under counters or in cabinet for a seamless look with front venting. Whichever you choose, always double-check the dimensions to ensure a perfect fit in your space.

Temperature Control

Temperature control is crucial for long-term wine storage. Ensure optimal temperature storage for
your entire wine collection with our versatile, high-quality wine fridges.

Cooling System

Compressors are more common and tend to achieve lower temperatures but they generate more noise and heat. Thermoelectric systems run quieter, produce no vibrations and do not use chemicals.

Dimensions

Don’t overlook size. Carefully measure the intended location for your wine fridge, accounting for width, height, and ventilation clearance. A well-fitted unit not only performs better but also looks more integrated into your space.
